The BC Safety Authority issues gas installation and operating permits for the Province of British Columbia. Most propane appliances annd equipment require a provincal gas permit before it is to be installed or operated. Homeowners insurance requires that all permits be taken out on any propane appliance to ensure that the appliance has been install to industry and safety standards. The BCSA may inspect any regulated equipment to confirm that owners are taking proper measures to ensure compliance with Gas Regulations and the Safety Standards Act. Often the contractor who is doing the installation will apply for the gas permit before the installation and on behalf of the home owner. Homeowners doing gas installations themselves are required to apply for the gas permit before they begin an installation. For mor information on Gas Installation, Operating permits and Requirments see the BC Safety Authority's webpage.
